9:30-1:00 Building Blocks/STUMBLING BLOCKS of Knowledge Sharing

Session Organizers: Susan Wallace, Judith Light, and Joe Rabenstine, USAID

This session examines how to nurture a culture conducive to KS, the critical issue of incentives, the role of leaders, models of how KS can be governed within an organization, and effective ways to communicate messages. It also examines the specific tasks, responsibilities and challenges of KS staff and knowledge managers; and measuring the impact of KS.

2:00-5:30 Communities of Practice in Development

Session Organizer: Erik Johnson, World Bank

This session is designed to explore the ways in which communities of practice (CoP) can be utilized by development organizations to enhance their own performance, and as capacity building tools for their clients and partners. While participants are expected to have some knowledge of what this concept means, the module will nonetheless attempt to better define what makes a CoP unique from other similar structures, and how to move beyond confusion regarding the use of terminology to focus on the concrete benefits of applying the CoP model. A special emphasis will also be placed on the dimensions of CoPs.

9:00-12:30 Knowledge Sharing and Knowledge Capture Methodologies

Session Organizer: Lucie Lamoureux, Bellanet

This session is designed to introduce three simple, practical Knowledge Sharing/Knowledge Capture methodologies, namely Peer Assists, After Action Reviews and Storytelling. The module will provide some background on each of these approaches and situate them within a broader context of existing KS methodologies.

2:00-5:30 Knowledge Sharing Strategies

Session Organizer: Steve Glovinsky, UNDP

This session examines what is involved in designing a KS strategy, its key components, identifying needs and priorities, and linking the strategy to an organization's broader goals and the needs of individual staff and clients. The focus will be on how actual strategies have been developed and how they reflect specific circumstances.
