SUMMARY:Making agriculture work for food and nutrition security
DESCRIPTION:Despite the world-wide increase of food availability 1 out
of 3 people are malnourished due to undernourishment, micronutrient d
eficiencies and/or overweight. Evidence shows that malnutrition has li
fe-long detrimental impacts on learning capacity, productivity and inc
ome-generating potential of populations. The sustainable development go
als aim to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition an
d promote sustainable agriculture by year 2030. Agriculture plays a ke
y role in the provision of food and nutrition security. But agricultur
al programs and policies do not automatically lead to better nourished
populations. In some cases these programs and policies can even be de
trimental to the nutritional situation of vulnerable groups. Agricultu
ral programs and policies need to take nutrition outcomes into account
.\nThis course focus on how agricultural programs and policies can bec
ome nutrition sensitive to achieve the nutrition objectives. In additi
on, we will explore the different agricultural pathways leading to foo
d and nutrition security. Experts will facilitate the course to provid
e you with the knowledge and skills to design and strengthen the imple
mentation of nutrition sensitive agricultural programs and policies. T
he course is highly interactive, building on the participant’s own e
 xperiences and cases.\n\nPractical information:\nCourse date: 7 - 18 N
